Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about shipping from China to this destination. Anything else — ask us directly, we reply within a few hours on business days.
How long does ocean freight from China to Canada take?
Sailings to Vancouver and Prince Rupert typically take 15–20 days port-to-port, with fast rail connections into Toronto and the Midwest. East Coast services to Montreal run around 30–35 days. We confirm the exact schedule and inland leg with every quote.
How much does it cost to ship a container from China to Canada?
Total cost = ocean freight + China origin charges (pickup, export customs, docs) + Canadian destination charges (unloading, CBSA entry, rail or truck to your door). Because inland rail can replace expensive long-haul trucking, the routing we choose often saves money — every quote is itemized so you see exactly what you pay for.
Can you deliver inland to Toronto, Calgary or Montreal?
Yes. Cargo landing in Vancouver or Prince Rupert moves on dedicated rail corridors to Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton, while Montreal is served directly from the East Coast. We arrange the inland leg together with the ocean booking so one team owns the whole journey.
What documents are required for Canadian customs?
You will need a commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading, and a CBSA import entry filed by a licensed Canadian broker. We prepare the export declaration in China and send your broker a complete, accurate document set in advance to avoid holds.
Do you offer DDP shipping from China to Canada?
Yes. Canada, like the US, is a full door-to-door and DDP lane for us: duties and taxes paid, container delivered to the consignee's door — including cross-border coordination if your goods ultimately move on to the United States.
Do I need a customs bond to import into Canada?
Canada works differently from the US: under CARM, since January 2026 importers must post their own financial security with CBSA — a continuous surety bond sized to roughly 35–50% of your annual duties and taxes, or a cash deposit. Non-resident importers need a BN15 import account. We guide you through registration and connect the bond to your shipments.
What taxes do I pay on China imports into Canada besides duty?
On top of duty by HS classification, imports collect 5% GST at the border — or 13–15% HST in harmonized provinces — and some provinces add PST or QST on delivery. Registered businesses normally recover the GST/HST as an input tax credit, so for them it is a cash-flow cost more than a final one.
How do I ship LCL from China to Toronto?
LCL to Toronto consolidates in our China warehouses and typically deconsolidates after Montreal or Toronto arrival, with a short road leg at the end. Allow a few extra days over FCL for deconsolidation, and compare the all-in total — destination CFS charges matter more than the headline per-cbm rate. Below roughly 13–15 cbm it usually beats FCL.
Does Canada charge extra tariffs on Chinese goods?
Normal trade means Canadian MFN duty by HS code plus GST/HST. A small set of categories — steel, aluminum and, at times, electric vehicles and related goods — has carried additional surtaxes that change with trade policy and reviews. Most consumer goods are outside those measures. Tell us the product and we confirm the current treatment before you book.
How long does door-to-door shipping from China to Toronto take?
Two routes: via Vancouver, 15–20 days ocean plus a few days of rail to Toronto; or via Montreal, 30–35 days ocean with a short truck leg. Door-to-door including pickup, export clearance and customs typically lands in the 25–40 day window depending on the corridor and season. We quote both corridors and confirm the sailing at booking.
Is wooden packaging for Canada still an ISPM-15 issue?
Yes — Canada enforces ISPM-15 strictly. Pallets, crates, skids and dunnage must be heat-treated and stamped with the IPPC mark, and non-compliant wood can be held, fumigated or re-exported at the importer's cost. Raise it with your factory at purchase-order stage, because fixing packaging after the container is sealed means a re-stuff.
